Turkeys :)

Josh has been out to Kansas a few times now and has really wanted me to go with him. He went for turkey and deer seasons last year. I told him I would go with him this April (the week of his b-day) for opening day of turkey season. I was pretty pumped until a day before we were supposed to leave. I checked the weather and it was supposed to be really crappy weather. I'm thinking "spring like weather" and it shows SNOW/SLEET/COLLLLLDDDD!!! UGH! We decided to go anyway and tough it out. That we did, for the first couple of days. It finally warmed up Thursday. Josh and I haven't done anything together since before Jake. I mean, a long vaca. We've had lots of one night or two nights away but not a week. I was sad to leave Jake but it was good for us and I'm so glad we did it. We had a blast. I'm so happy that we both enjoy the outdoors as much as we do! Jake cried because he wanted to go and "shoot his gun and kill a turkey". I can't wait to go as a family when he gets bigger. I told him "you have to wait until you're bigger"... he said "but I'm not little" HAHA!

So on our way out there we pass these...
What in the ?????
Are you kidding me!? Storm chasers!
I'm not a happy camper at this point :)
...........

We get to our trailer, unload everything, and go down to the only place in town to eat. Some of Josh's friends were out there too. They left to head home before us though. It was a lot of fun.

LOLOL! Our beds... (separate as you can see)... so romantic :) we laughed pretty hard. Check out our 60's trailer... it smelled like an old moth ball lady :) I was like DANG I should have brought a candle or something ha!

Day #1 ...Opening Day! Snow on the ground. Josh kept saying... "wouldn't it be awesome to kill a snow bird" me: "ummm no, I'll stay in the car while you look" :) (I don't do cold very well unless we are snow skiing lol)

Corn fields... covered in snow/sleet

Yep - this is what we were hunting in... BRRRR

Lunch break...
I ate lunch everyday by 10 b/c I was starved!

Day #2 much better weather and got our first turkey! I spotted these and Josh killed the tom... so we can call this a team bird haha

Rolling hills and beautiful

Some hens running in the field

Evening #2 - SUCCESS! I killed this guy and Josh called him in. So another team bird haha

I'm pretty stoked about this right here! :) :) Oh and I used Jake's new gun... neat story.

Day #3 literally laying on the side of a hill.... we were trying the sneak attack but didn't work this time :/ side note : day #3 we should have been tagged out and heading home by noon! We are so sad b/c it was a day of screw ups! ugh! That's "hunting" as Josh would say :)

Absolutely beautiful.

I let Josh do this part too :) yay for fresh turkey breasts!

:)

Day #4 Another mess up on our part. We sat up totally wrong - these birds went the opposite way and had their ladies already so they didn't care about our calls. ha! I did get to see two toms fight, that was pretty crazy. There is no coverage in Kansas, these turkeys can see you coming A LONG WAYS!

Random: two pheasants fighting ... got to see a lot of cool wildlife

This was an old farm home on some walk-in hunting land... I thought it was pretty cool!

Kansas corn fed deer

I took my Sony camera and took a few pics... one of my favorites

There is a huge lake here too - they say #5 crappie fishing in the U.S! I want to go back for sure!

LOL! Hens and two toms... this is as we were leaving is why I'm laughing.. and of course on private land right off the highway. :/

Back home to enjoy a warm Sunday with my little man. I had him working in the yard!

Picking up sticks

We did have some fun though ;)

Fishing with daddy ;)

I thought this was cute, he had to work like daddy was... concentrating so hard.

This is what Josh was working on... he made this out of our turkey beards and spurs :)

So if you're not a hunter, this is all real boring to you - but this was an awesome trip for me and Josh and we have a lot of memories and stories to talk about.
