The Great Outdoors...

More outdoor pictures... can't help myself. I have an addiction. I may be worse than my husband. I am trying to find a way to turkey hunt as much as I can, ha (as in finding a sitter)! I went with my dad Tuesday morning. We had a BLAST and if you want the full story - text me. I can not blog about this LOL! It was an eventful, action packed day! Almost stepped on a rattle snake, was attacked by buffalo gnats bigger than birds, and seen quite a few turkey birds :) No gobbles all day though... not sure what was up with that. I am still laughing about what happened and my dad is hilarious... so blessed to have gotten a whole day with him!

My dad calling in some turkeys :)

I mean, this is breathtaking.... I love it.

Hello BEARS! Yep, I know for a fact they live here. Seen some fresh sign :/ I was looking behind my back often haha

We climbed... and fell some.. haha... got my workout in!

WOAH baby! Don't judge a girl, I got up at 3:30 am! I was on a mission. #blackeyes #deathly #needsleep

My little love playing in the creek. Yes, more creek pictures. He won't go anywhere else :)

funny faces...

Seriously beavers?! Anyone wanna come shoot some with me? Angela? LOL! They need to go!

My new wine barrel. Have I mentioned how awesome my friends are?? Thanks Amanda :)

Handsome little man.

Tonight we are having pizza and chocolate covered strawberries! YUM-O! I started working out this week (haven't in MONTHS) ... it was scary... and here I am stuffing my face with all kinds of junk food. I always group text my friends and I told them this week I had a bad addition to peanut butter.. like by the spoonfuls. No, not preggers but just craving it like a mad person :/ Holy geez I can't stop. I was gonna start running again ohhhh in March... never got around to it. Well, I need to start b/c I am supposed to run with my mom in June... I don't know if I will be able to :/ My wind is awful!

I hope everyone has a great weekend... we have some stuff planned I'm excited about. Haven't seen some old friends in a long time- gonna see them on Saturday night. Turkey hunting Sunday.. STOKED!

Over the weekend...

Nothing too exciting for us this past weekend. I had my last weekend class Friday night and Saturday. We had been invited to go a few places Saturday afternoon but I was wore out so we stayed home and played outside. Sunday we worked in the yard. Picking up rocks - it never ends. My yard grows rocks I believe :) We played at the creek, Jake's favorite thing ever. He asks me everyday to go down there. We caught frogs, and crickets and dug up some worms. We put them in his bug catcher and brought them home. :) That boy loves bugs. He's just all boy. I love it.

His new thing is "look at me, I'm making a silly face"

:)

More silly faces but he really did eat this celery. Yuck! I told him it was good though and he ate it.

Tractor tire swing.... loves it.

Tore down the fire pit - building a new one :) Can't wait!

Driving the back roads... daddy's favorite thing to do :)

I was cleaning the house and Josh walked in with some dogwood tree haha... he knows me so well. I love these and always want him to cut me down some... he's sweet. :)

Off to the creek - with his drink and bug catcher. I love him so much.

He loves to hold my "hand" (finger) ... precious!

Snacks at the creek...

Sunday night we went to our friend's house to have smoked ribs, potatoes, carrots, beans, and rolls! YUM!

I hope everyone has a great week. I'm gonna try to to find an ole' Arkansas gobbler tomorrow with my dad. Fingers crossed! :)

Turkeys :)

Josh has been out to Kansas a few times now and has really wanted me to go with him. He went for turkey and deer seasons last year. I told him I would go with him this April (the week of his b-day) for opening day of turkey season. I was pretty pumped until a day before we were supposed to leave. I checked the weather and it was supposed to be really crappy weather. I'm thinking "spring like weather" and it shows SNOW/SLEET/COLLLLLDDDD!!! UGH! We decided to go anyway and tough it out. That we did, for the first couple of days. It finally warmed up Thursday. Josh and I haven't done anything together since before Jake. I mean, a long vaca. We've had lots of one night or two nights away but not a week. I was sad to leave Jake but it was good for us and I'm so glad we did it. We had a blast. I'm so happy that we both enjoy the outdoors as much as we do! Jake cried because he wanted to go and "shoot his gun and kill a turkey". I can't wait to go as a family when he gets bigger. I told him "you have to wait until you're bigger"... he said "but I'm not little" HAHA!

So on our way out there we pass these...
What in the ?????
Are you kidding me!? Storm chasers!
I'm not a happy camper at this point :)
...........

We get to our trailer, unload everything, and go down to the only place in town to eat. Some of Josh's friends were out there too. They left to head home before us though. It was a lot of fun.

LOLOL! Our beds... (separate as you can see)... so romantic :) we laughed pretty hard. Check out our 60's trailer... it smelled like an old moth ball lady :) I was like DANG I should have brought a candle or something ha!

Day #1 ...Opening Day! Snow on the ground. Josh kept saying... "wouldn't it be awesome to kill a snow bird" me: "ummm no, I'll stay in the car while you look" :) (I don't do cold very well unless we are snow skiing lol)

Corn fields... covered in snow/sleet

Yep - this is what we were hunting in... BRRRR

Lunch break...
I ate lunch everyday by 10 b/c I was starved!

Day #2 much better weather and got our first turkey! I spotted these and Josh killed the tom... so we can call this a team bird haha

Rolling hills and beautiful

Some hens running in the field

Evening #2 - SUCCESS! I killed this guy and Josh called him in. So another team bird haha

I'm pretty stoked about this right here! :) :) Oh and I used Jake's new gun... neat story.

Day #3 literally laying on the side of a hill.... we were trying the sneak attack but didn't work this time :/ side note : day #3 we should have been tagged out and heading home by noon! We are so sad b/c it was a day of screw ups! ugh! That's "hunting" as Josh would say :)

Absolutely beautiful.

I let Josh do this part too :) yay for fresh turkey breasts!

:)

Day #4 Another mess up on our part. We sat up totally wrong - these birds went the opposite way and had their ladies already so they didn't care about our calls. ha! I did get to see two toms fight, that was pretty crazy. There is no coverage in Kansas, these turkeys can see you coming A LONG WAYS!

Random: two pheasants fighting ... got to see a lot of cool wildlife

This was an old farm home on some walk-in hunting land... I thought it was pretty cool!

Kansas corn fed deer

I took my Sony camera and took a few pics... one of my favorites

There is a huge lake here too - they say #5 crappie fishing in the U.S! I want to go back for sure!

LOL! Hens and two toms... this is as we were leaving is why I'm laughing.. and of course on private land right off the highway. :/

Back home to enjoy a warm Sunday with my little man. I had him working in the yard!

Picking up sticks

We did have some fun though ;)

Fishing with daddy ;)

I thought this was cute, he had to work like daddy was... concentrating so hard.

This is what Josh was working on... he made this out of our turkey beards and spurs :)

So if you're not a hunter, this is all real boring to you - but this was an awesome trip for me and Josh and we have a lot of memories and stories to talk about.
